2015 Chevy Equanox LT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This is my moms car.
She states that when she puts the key in the ignition and turns it to start,
there is nothing for a little bit (undisclosed amount of time) then the motor
turns over and starts.
She is concerned that one of these times, there'll be nothing and it won't
start. I'm curious as to where I should start looking.

I'd suggest looking at the ignition switch first, then the BCM, and finally the wiring at both locations. When the ignition switch is turned to the start position a starter request signal is sent to the BCM. When the BCM determines that the correct key is being used, which should happen immediately, the starter is engaged. It sounds like there's a delay in the BCM receiving the starter request signal or a delay in the BCM enabling the starter. Hope that helps! Jim

This started happening on my wife’s Equinox V6 and found that the starter was getting ready to fail. When I pulled off and looked behind the end plate the brushes were ground down so far they were arching.
