Check engine light 2014 escape SE

Asked by GuruZVP41 Oct 23, 2017 at 05:46 PM about the 2014 Ford Escape SE AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all:) so we have a 2014 escape SE and have owned it
for almost a year. Runs great, decent gas mileage and no
problems, that being said just a few days ago my wife was
crossing a two way busy road and had to ‘step ‘ on the
gas to get across . She said when she did that that there
was a few second of hesitation ( almost like it wasn’t goi g
to go) but then took off but when she did that it popped
the ‘check engine ‘ light. So the next day I was down and
had it checked and it popped up with ‘no DTC definition
found, check service manual’ .... I have yet to make an
appointment to get it in due to my work schedule... is it
possible to have the light on and no codes are found? Any
help is greatly appreciated:D

I have never heard of that scenario. Light on and no code. Maybe no definition on your code reader but what is the code? A little more expensive code reader will give you a code and a definition. Maybe the code reader could not link up with your pcm? Asking....a mid level scanner will give you pending and historical codes along with thrown codes.

Thank you for the response and from what I’ve found ( internet) this seem to be unheard of... I’m going to another parts store (NAPA) tomorrow and see if they will check and hopefully this time a code of some kind will pop up.

Hey folks, I had this same scenario happen to my Ford Escape S 2014 this morning. I was in the far right lane, accelerated quickly because there was a big truck right behind me, moments later the check engine light came on. I was wondering if you have figured out what the issue is? -Alex

It should not be a major worry. As today technology is so advance, car today we almost can call it smart car with so many sensors. That car was not program to race so whenever you are being too hard on gas pedal causing more pressure in the system than it normally can handle then it will throw out some code to warn you. Nothing to worry just get code scanner, scan and delete the code...and you should be fine. But remember, take it easy on the gas pedal.
