Question type: Maintenance & Repair

or do they have a special seal or gasket I
can use the people my son bought the car
from change the head gasket once before
look like they smashed a hole in the new
gasket where the bolt hole goes if I didn't
have it in right and looks like they didn't
clean it very well so when the Tang it down it
looks like it's mashed the old gasket and
stuff into the head which left Ping's and
dings in it do you think they have a gasket
sealant or a gasket that will fix it or can I put
it together and do you think it will hold I
could send you a picture of it if it would help
out with my question

any time you buy a car that is just a couple bucks, there is generally a TON of work involved to repair it. Obviously the higher brand car, the higher the cost, etc. But yes, if you only put in $300 then a new block, or head would be a tremendous cost, or even a transmission. Saturn is known A LOT for warped heads ( because they are aluminum and it doesn't withstand the heat as easy). that is why you will see MoST Saturn with warped head and fine transmission. You get what you pay for. Good luck)

that's my dumb son I told him never buy a car that you don't know nothing about unless you can drive it and hear it run but I'll try anything it takes looks like they already put foam in it probably ruined the damn thing also with that but maybe I can work miracles we'll see

Wow, this thing would cost several times more to repair than your son paid. Always, ALWAYS thoroughly look around the car and test drive it.

That shouldn't be an issue. I've done a few head gasket jobs on 1.0L Geo Metros, so I'm.speaking from experience. If you do the job correctly, it should only cost you between $50 in parts (& another $50 to get the head machined) to do the entire job and the car should last a very long time....but take the head to a machine shop to see if it is straight. They warp alot & it's only $50 or so to get it machined, which also boosts power and snappiness in this Suzuki 3 cyl. By the way, these cars are so inexpensive to maintain and easy to work on that it's probably the best for your son to learn on. $25/piece for new tires. $50 for an entire front end rebuild kit that installs in 30 minutes. Anyways, I remember I bought my first one with a bad head gasket for $400. Put $150 worth of parts in the car & then drove the snot out of it. Dirt road rallying. Off-road jumping. Whatever. By the time I was ready to buy something else, it finally broke down in a parking lot, so I called the junkyard to pick up the car & just walked away. Why? Because the amount of gas I had saved at 50mpg allowed me to save up for something else. Personally, from experience with Geo's, your son got a good deal.

....also, you have to put a light amount of oil on the washers & bolts when you install the heads. You really should have just joined a Geo forum, as the people replying really don't know anything about Geo's....I mean the kid who replied "this thing would cost several times more to repair than your son paid" is a d****ss. You can rebuild every system on the car with new parts if you had $600 to throw at it.
