What caused this w123 oil leak at the bottom of the engine transmission?

Asked by Billbone Aug 08, 2020 at 09:52 AM about the 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class 300CD Turbodiesel Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Oil started steady leaking while the engine is running from
two ports at the bottom housing where the engine and
automatic transmission come together. Should the ports be
plugged or are there other issues?
Thanks for any assistance

1 Answer

Likely a main seal on the engine, otherwise it would be transmission fluid coming from the input shaft.
