2013 Nissan Sentra Transmission

Asked by Tracy May 26, 2022 at 03:16 PM about the 2013 Nissan Sentra SV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm late to the party on this topic, but we also have a 2013 Sentra.  Ours has only 48,000 miles and of course the blown transmission is not covered under the extended warranty that ended May 2020.  Nissan corporate has agreed to pay 50% of the $6K cost under its 'Goodwill' program.  I agree, it's complete BS.  Unfortunately we have no choice because of the difficult environment of replacing a car.  The new trans has a one-year warranty.  Has anyone's replacement lasted much longer than that?  The car only blue books for about $6K and normally I would kick it to the curb, but it'll cost an arm and a leg to replace it right now.  Do I try to ditch it within the year to preserve the sale value?  I'd love to get another 4 years out of the car , but certainly not by replacing the trans every year.

I'd replace the trans like you said, you will get next to nothing for the vehicle without a working transmission. I'd then start looking for a replacement vehicle and saving some down money in the process. Then sell the vehicle privately to max profit. Only you can make the decision to cut ties with the vehicle and what you can afford.
