New Window Replacement Problem

Asked by GuruJDSM6 Jul 23, 2020 at 02:12 AM about the 2012 Subaru Outback 3.6R

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just replaced 2012 Subaru Outback 3.6R windshied & just drove at night.
This is a new problem that started with windshield replacement. At top,
middle of windshield, when I drive I see exact image of my
backup/navigation screen, that, of course, is in my dashboard facing the car
seats. I'm thinking there is some front camera that is now out of alignment or
position, or the angle of windshield is now different, or something.  What is
the problem? Please advise. Thank you. I don't want to return to same
installer.

I've got the same problem with the sliding window I replaced on my 97 Ranger, I see my clock in the upper left corner of the rearview mirror. I think it is how the glass was made cause the other 2 windows on either side dont reflect the clock.

TY. I have owned car since new. I've never had this issue before. Although I called it a reflection, the image that I now see on the windshield behind the mirror, is no where in the line of vision or reflection of the backup/navigation screen. As if I cut and pasted an exact duplicate of the screen image on to the windshield behind the mirror. Any other thoughts on this? I'm thinking its a camera lens alignment issues. Puzzling.

If it is upside down or the letters are backwards then it is the windshield reflecting the navigation system because the mirror and windshield extend over the dash.

When u see it, run your hand on the top of the dash where the navigation screen is. If the reflection goes away as u run your hand across then u will know that it is the way the windshield was made.

TY. It’s not upside down or backwards. Exact image. I‘m going on a drive and will change mirror position and mirror settings to see If anything changes. TY again.

TY all. All comments were very helpful. I adjusted my mirror position, I dimmed my nav/backup screen, I read the link re subaru wiindshield glare, and I talked to installer. I get that new windshields have more glare than old ones. I also read articles that say some windshield brands have more glare than others. Bottom line, with the adjustments the distracting reflection is better but still distracting. I'll drive car and see how it goes. Maybe replace if I find it to still be a problem. When I purchase a new car, I'll be much more aware of any windshield issues before I buy. TY for all comments.
