Oil light

Just happened first time ever today!
My oil light has came on and is staying on.
I checked the oil and it was a little low, registered between min. and max.
Let it set about an hour or so and it still is on, the car starts fine, sounds fine,
So was hoping somebody can hopefully give me some idea on what it might
be?
