In my dodge dakota when I was heading to school the check gauges turned on and the battery was really low? Have ideas what to do next?

get a multi tester and see if you have 12.5 V at the batt. then if it starts see if you have 14+ V if you don't then the aLT is bad , make sure the batt. is charged if you replace the alt. don't make a new alt. charge a dead batt. , if the batt. voltage drops below 10 V when you crank it the batt. should be replaced , Have the batt. tested before you replace it
