Why is their water in the trunk of my car?

i have a 2012 taurus and whenever it rains water is in my trunk the carpeting is
soaked and water is pooled in the wheel well ( where the spare is ) what can i
do . a mechanic said its leaking through the back lights and he wants to drill a
small hole in my back lamps

I would inspect the trunk weather stripping first. If the leak is from the taillamp, I would think the gasket iaround them s the issue, not the plastic itself. You might have to replace them. But I wouldn't drill any holes in them. You will always have issues with condensation. Fix the real problem.

THERE IS A RUBBER BULK HEAD SEAL THAT SEALS REAR LAILIGHT WIRING . WIRING THAT EXISTS THE TRUNK, VIA RUBBER FITTING TO THE REAR TAILLIGHTS DRYIES OUT AND LEAKS. FROM INSIDE THE TRUNK REMOVE THE SMALL SECTION OF TRUNK LINER TO ACCESS THE LIGHTS FROM INSIDE THE TRUNK. APPLY A GOOD AMOUNT OF SILICON SEALER AROUND THE RUBBER FITTING. THOROUGHLY DRY THE TRUNK TIRE WELL AND EVERYTHING IN IT. I USED A HAIR DRYER. SILICON SEALER COST ABOUT $6, IT HAS A FOUL SMELL BUT IT GOES AWAY IN A FEW HOURS.
