I need help diagnosing a noise.

Asked by Pete1957 Oct 17, 2009 at 10:31 AM about the 2002 Chrysler Sebring LX Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I take my car out on the road and it reaches about 25 to 30 miles per hour a kind of high pitched whin begins and when my car slows ro below about 15 or 20 the noise drops in pitch and disappears. First I know it's not brakes because it only happens in gear reaching those speeds. I can't make it happen in neutral. Any ideas? 2.7 Lt V6

Thanks!

Actually it could be the brakes. That sound might be your squealer telling you to change the pads.

Sounds are very hard to diagnose over a distance. Considering that you can't get the sound to happen while in neutral makes me think some sinister possibilities, none of which have any merit without having personally seen the car. As such you should go to your nearest TRUSTED mechanic and see what they think.

could be nothing but the 2.7L and 3.5L v6s from chrysler are problematic. ive heard a ton of bad things about those engines and nothing good.
