What causes my car engine to miss at mid-range to high revs?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Mustang GT Convertible. Occasionally(not always) the motor seems to miss or hestitate as I accelerate thru the gears. It happens sporadically. As an example if im getting onto the "on ramp" and accelerating 2 to 3rd...speeding up...the motor will hesitate/miss at about 3500-4000rpm's. Has anyone experienced this or have an idea. Could it be the plugs/fuel? or?... Thanks for your help.

I would suspect plugs, wires, coils, maybe the crank shaft position sensor.

tenspeed got it right, 1st thing is to check to see any codes, could be anything from spark plugs to o2 sensors.....

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR VACUUM ADVANCE ISN'T DOING IT'S JOB.

My 2000 mustang GT is missing all the time. I changed some vacuum hoses and it's still doing it. If it's a plug, wire, or a coil wouldn't the engine light came on

I’ve been having same issues with my 02 mustang GT I’ve also went above and beyond replacing parts after parts. From plugs to COP to cranks sensor to cam sensors to intake plenum gasket to throttle body to TPS sensor to IAC valve. I’ve took fuel rail off cleaned it to testing all my injectors cleaning them and reinstalling. I haven’t replace MAF sensor I haven’t replaced fuel pump and haven’t changed 02 sensors that’ll be the next few parts I change and if it don’t work then all I can do is change front end wiring harness and having my ECU flashed
