Engine tick

Asked by Justin Feb 12, 2017 at 04:52 PM about the 2001 Ford Mustang GT Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mustang recently started making a ticking noise
but only when I start the car. Then it goes away and
doesn't return. Any ideas?

Usually comes from the lifters, you could try and put an additive in the oil to loosen them up. Just check at your local parts store to see what they recommend.

It could also be an exhaust leak that stops when parts expand when heating up.
