Wheels

Asked by Randy Apr 02, 2018 at 12:25 AM about the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel AWD

Question type: Car Customization

Got a weird one. I have a 2011 Durango
Citadel AWD. Just purchased new
aftermarket black wheels. The wheels are
hub centric. When I get to highway speeds
my steering wheel shakes left to right. With
the factory wheels on, it's smooth. And this
is the second set. The first set was worse.
Any ideas?

Same tires I used with the factory wheels. And exact tires that came from from factory. They been balanced. Wheels are OE creations 129 gloss black. Not sure where they are made.

Using a torque wrench torque to spec, not over tightened that causes warped rotors. If you can right now take those OE creations 129 wheels & tires off and put on your oem set up and drive the highway without this frontend shake even while braking (no shake) then the new set up has issues, either balance or mounting procedure. If shake persist with the oem set up then its in your frontend. Are the wheels balanced by using wheel weights just on the inner side, in-order to keep the outer side pretty, which the shop may not be saying the best place to place weights would put the weights on the outside edge too, wheels out of balance over-all can only be fully balanced by placing the weights on both sides of the wheels.

If shake persist with both the new and old setups your old set could also be out of balance too or worn or loose front end.

Weights on both sides is Dynamic balanced, the best balance. Weights on just the inside or inside and center is static balance and not the greatest.

Had some front end work done about 8 months ago. I put new rotors on because they were warped. Drives perfectly smooth with OEM wheels, but the the OE creations on. Not so smooth. Weights are on the inside of the wheel.

Ok. Friday I'm taking it to another shop to do a road force balance on them. Then we'll see what happens.

Before you do that and blow money. Jack it up on each side or middle if possible, grab the wheel at 3 and 9 try to wiggle it then 12 n 6 sometimes you can find a fix a problem yourself. In this case could be wheel out of balance or ball joints or loose tie rods, due to the change of the wheel and weight good luck happy success

Just got the road force balance done. They said all four wheels were off. Still shakes on the highway, but even worse now. Everything in the front end is prefect. They said it's got to be the wheels
