‘07 F-150 5.4L Troubleshooting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

hey I need some help trouble shooting.. I
just bought an ‘07 F150 v8 5.4L with 160K
miles, there’s a good amount of (burnt oil
smelling) white/grey smoke coming out the
exhaust when I start it and it idles for the
first minute or so at 1,200 rpm, there’s a
slight whistling from the engine
compartment but it goes away relatively
soon after starting.. any ideas? PCV valve
is fine, no issues with the serpentine belt or
air filter. Nothing is coding.

grey smoke indicates burning oil. None of the repairs are a DIY job.

I agree. Sounds like the prior owner didn't change his oil often enough. The whistling sound could be a loose vacuum hose. Maybe check that the air filter assembly is completely sealed (hose clamps tight, clips on air intake assembly latched correctly...).
