Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Purchased new F-150 V8 when I retired in 2010. Drive very little. Use full synthetic oil, but only add about 5K miles per year. I always change the oil at 5K, which is 2K less than the recommended levels. Question. How long is too long to go between oil changes as far as time is concerned. Live in the deep south where a bad winter day is one where it may get to 32 degrees.

There is much debate about this issue- seems that everybody has a different idea about oil change intervals- since you bought your truck new, and drive it very little, and change the oil regularly, that engine must be just as fresh as the day it rolled off the line- my opinion is that your 5,000 mile oil changes are just about right-
I wasn't worried about the 5K mileage as the manufacturer indicates 7K oil change. I was just wondering if there was info out there about leaving the same oil in for about a year. As I previously said, extremes in weather is not a factor down south.
The synthetic oil will not degrade to any extent over the course of 12 months- some of the oil in the bottles has been sitting on the shelf in the auto parts store longer than that-
