Blower motor does not get power.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, my AC blower motor does not get power. I checked the motor blower by
connecting it to the battery and it works fine. I exchanged a similar relay
(Reverse Light Relay) with the Front Blower relay and the reverse light
works fine. I can hear a click on the relay for Reverse light when the
reverse gear is on (With both old and exchanged relay), but nothing from
the relay connected to the Front Blower.

So looks like there is no power supply to the relay. Checked the fuses in
the fuse boxes with a multimeter and they are all fine. There are 2 fuses for
Front blower and exchanged them with other 15 AMP fuses in same box,
but no luck.

Do you think it could be the wiring thats gone bad? I couldn't find the
electrical diagram for the Xterra AC system. What do you think could have
gone bad?

But usually if the blower motor resistor is bad the fan would work atleast at one setting..right?

No, not necessarily, but usually, I went threw 5 blower motor resistors this past summer, and it all started when the blower motor wouldn't shut off even with the keys out. And one time it wouldn't turn on. Since you have a multi meter, find the resistor, and check on the lines going into the resistor to see if you pick up some power. Make sure and have the fan setting so it would run. Chances are it is the resistor.

I replaced the blower resistor and the fan started working normally. Thank you for your help. So the normal perception that the fan works atleast at one speed if resistor is bad is not true.

Oh yes it is, but it can do all kinds of things that don't make sense. But when the blower motor is not responding like it should, and you know it is good, 99% of the time it is the resistor.
