Is $1125 too high for a timing belt service on a 2008 Subaru Forester?

Asked by Julie Sep 28, 2017 at 05:16 PM about the 2008 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Service includes changing the drive belt but I just had it changed 1k miles ago.
They said the price quoted didn't include the drive belt bc it doesn't need it .  I
still feel like $1125 is high for a timing belt change but then again I'm in Los
Angeles.  My car is a 2008 with close to 117k miles on it.

Too late to complain now. You are paying LA prices which are higher than my area.

get other estimates from reputable shops , that may well be the going rate , you can always do it yourself

It's a three hour job with a $60 belt; add a hundred for idler pulley if needed. $400-500 is the fair price around here (New England), and of course includes the $15 ps/alt outer belt, for gosh sakes!

Nothing like a fuel efficient, multilevel assembled factory engine. Myself I drive a 97 ford e150 van. Cheaper than anything maintenance, Ford builds them to get at least 250_300,000 miles.
