2008 Ford Escape Check Engine Light and Fuel Cap Light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had an ongoing issue with my escape. As I fill the tank with gas it will
click off periodically like it's full even if I've just started to fill it. And no, its not
because it's full. I'll have the light come on telling me to fill the tank and it still
does it. It does it regardless of how I have the nozzle placed in the fill pipe.
I've tried adjusting the nozzle in and out and all around the fill pipe. It does it
regardless of what the weather is too. I've had it taken to the shop to have it
fixed. They "fixed it" only for it to eventually do it again and now my check
engine light and fill cap lights are on. Had those "fixed" as well (new gas cap
and evap code) and they just came back on. They had it all cleared long
enough for the inspection to pass but now its all back on. I'm sure it's nothing
major but it's certainly annoying as hell to pay for a problem that I feel like is
just being band-aided. Not questioning my mechanic but was hoping for
some insight or for someone to tell me that there's an issue with this model
or year.

Will this give me the gas cap light and check engine light or would that be a different issue?
