My truck started shaking(alot!)when I reached about 60mph this morning.

Asked by east4texas6 May 14, 2014 at 10:30 AM about the 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son got stuck in a ditch last night. The passenger side of the truck was sunk pretty
deep and it took a pretty good tug to get it out. We did not notice any problem at low
speeds last night on the way home, but this morning on the highway when I reached
about 60-65mph it began to shake really bad.

Just for the heck of it, take a look inside the wheels. They can get packed with mud and really throw the balance off!

Thanks for your responses. It was mud packed in the wheels. After spraying them out really well the shaking went away. Feel a little stupid, but that's better than a big repair bill.

Don't feel stupid. You'd be surprised at how often the Deputies come to us wanting new shocks or claiming that their wheels are bent when all they really need to do is run their Durango over a sprinkler every once in a while. Poor (inexpensive) wheel design doesn't help shed the mud either.

Tracy, I have a question for you my husbands Ford truck started to vibrate and choke like it wants to turn off. He replaced the air filter, but still very bad, What could cause this problem? It gets worse on the expressway. Should he not drive on the expressway? Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

It's difficult to tell from here what your concern may be: whether engine or another system. A miss fire will cause a shake, out of balance tires or a separating tire will definitely get worse with speed or at specific speeds.so will a loose wheel. You should have a tire shop look at it. At the very least they can say for certain if there's a trire problem. Remember that you can always say no if they want to sell you a bunch of services.
