Exsessive pressure

Asked by Roland Feb 28, 2018 at 01:31 PM about the 2005 Buick Century Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Heat works. Don't over heat. But when I squeeze top hose I
can see bottom hose expanding like it's not flowing
through. Seems to be a small leak I think due to the
pressure. Don't know what the problem is. Please help.
Best guess is bad water pump or a blockage somewhere.  I
filled out both because the heat works. Cold when I start
heats up nice. Maybe I'm wrong.

Perhaps the radiator cap should be replaced but I am not sure you actually have a problem. A properly operating cap will release pressure, usually at 14 psi.

Going to replace cap and see if this helps. I've just nevee seen the hose expand when I squeeze the top hose.

Expanding, as in bulging out? I'd say you have a bad lower hose, I'd replace it and upper hose too. And may as well do the thermostat when you have all the coolant out.
