Do you mean 'adjusting' the valves? If so, the stock 302 has hydraulic roller tappets that you don't have to adjust. Just torque the rocker arms to the proper spec. Is that what you mean? Or did I misunderstand your question when you ay 'set' the lifters....?

Just google how to set valve lash on 5.0 ford. But if what David says is true, setting lash isnt required. I wouldnt know. Im a Chevy fan. Either way, "setting lifters" just doesnt exist.

I've been a Ford Technician since 1987, torque 'em down and slap the covers on! I'd be sure to use a good Assembly lube but no, there are no adjustments. You can rotate the motor so each rocker you torque is at the base of it's lobe - that's best practice but it won't kill anything if you don't. Yeah, was ho1.6?
