New 3ngine and it won't accelerate. why nhot?

Asked by doctor612 Jun 12, 2015 at 01:43 PM about the 2004 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 X type 3.0 threw a rod and I bought a used engine online from a reputable company. The mechanic at our heavy machinery shop installed it for me but the engine runs hot and won't do over 2200 rpm. He changed thermostats- no help. He ran it with NO thermostat- still ran hot and won't accelerate. What's the problem?

Clogged cooling system try flushing cooling system with a good cooling system flush do this with out the t- stat installed. Also check for a clogged catalytic converter that will cause no acceleration.

Is the exhaust system installed properly? are there any dents in the exhaust pipes? Any kind of a restriction there could cause limited acceleration. Running hot could be kinked hose(s), plugged radiator or a bad water pump on the used engine.
