Would the transmission cause the truck not to move when you put it in gear

Truck goes in gear but does not move when we push on the gas pedal

Generally that's a transmission issue. But that assumes the shift linkage is working properly to actually shift the transmission from park to drive.

The shift linkage the moves from park to drive works fine, it was loose and we tightened it. So no problem there, started the truck and put it drive but still didn't move.
