Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 suburban k1500 5.7 vortec. Its been
sitting for a couple years. Using ether, it starts and
runs. Drives pretty good, other than a little sputter
if you accelerate too fast. But no misfires or
anything.

But without ether, it wont start.. It just cranks and
cranks. Any ideas?

Check the fuel pressure, may have low fuel pressure. Check at the Schrader Valve, it should be 56 to 63 lbs.

Real good. Hard starting when it gets under 55 lbs. no start when it gets to 50 and below. I bet it is right on the edge to be able to run but not start. Once you build up fuel pressure on the gauge, let it sit for 3 minutes with the key off. The fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 lbs. If it does, this is an indication of leaking spider injection assembly.

Decided to replace the fuel pressure regulator today to see if that changed anything. Put in the new regulator, closed everything up and now There's no pressure in the lines at all. Fuel pump still runs, but no pressure

Repairs to the spider assembly never last, always have problems down the road. It is always recommended to replace the assembly. But on yours, the assembly should have ben of the new upgraded one. Should just check the fuel pressure. It is easy to do. Just rent a fuel pressure gauge from an auto parts store, let them know what you are checking so get the right fitting.
