Seems like it would be likely a starter and/or battery problem if it is not cranking. Not cranking to me suggests is not turning over. Turn key and get nothing? Not timing chain some problem before timilng chain as listed above.

Have the crank posiiton sensor checked, if it is not sending a rotation signal to the cars computer, a no-start condition will result.
