I have a 99 buick century. I put car in reverse and tried to back up but car stopped. I put
it in drive and it went forward but it still wont go in reverse and let me back up. Any idea

I don't think the parking brake is hanging up. The car also made a whining noise every time I used the brakes. Had never had any problems with car until now.

perhaps the transmission and/or motor mounts have changed the geometry of the selector....have someone scoot under there with a huge screwdriver or pry bar and see if the mounts are supple or torn~
