Heater controls flashing!!

Asked by eurotrash Sep 30, 2010 at 10:55 AM about the 2003 Volkswagen EuroVan GLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Got in the van today and the control panel flashed for about 10 seconds.  Once it came on as normal, the front fan no longer comes on.  The rear heater still works, but the front AC and Heat no longer blow.  Even when I hit "auto" --nothing.

Leading up to this, I noticed the AC was not staying cold at stop lights.  And then later, under acceleration in first or second gear, the center vents would make a loud HUSSSSHHHHH sound and stop blowing air.. as soon as the van would shift and the RPM's came down, the vents would blow air again.. (Vacuum controls acting up?!)

Now finally, the entire front half of the van has gone and quit.  Once again, the control panel flashes for about ten seconds and then goes to normal read out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
