My 2001 s80 is sluggish on takeoff.What might be causes?

You might wanna plug in the OBD cable and see what kinda check engine code it throws out. Does the RPM surge ? it ranges from ETM problem, Dirty MAF (mass air flow). How many miles does the car have ?? I d take it to a Volvo Specialist , NOT dealership to help you diagnose the problem. Goood luck
