Does my 99 volvo s70 need an alternator

Asked by Volvomama2x Sep 05, 2018 at 09:56 PM about the 1999 Volvo S70 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm pretty sure I need an alternator but I want to get opinions. My battery died
because I left the emergency flashers on. I jumped it...it started immediately
and I began to drive home. About 5 miles later the entire dashboard lit up
and we started (quickly) losing power. Got off the highway. VDoT highway
assistance came by, jumped the Volvo again and it died almost immediately
when the jumper cables were removed. Alternator, right? If so, where do I
find the best deal on a part for a car I LOVE but is almost 20 years old but
has low mileage for that old a car (145K).

It's the alternator for sure. For price, the only thing I can recommend is looking up your local parts stores online and compare the prices.

Maybe not - the. Battery smooths the alternator output, and without the battery the S70 may not continue to run
