Distributor cap and rotary replacement

When installing the rotor  - If no. 1 piston is up
shouldn't the rotary be hitting no. 1 on the cap.
I'm at no. 5 position

The piston with rise in two positions (intake and exhaust) stroke, Are you sure it is up on the intake stroke and not exhaust stroke?
