2006 Audi A4 2.0T

Asked by Jonathan Jan 30, 2017 at 01:03 AM about the 2006 Audi A4 2.0T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Audio A4 and I was driving it and out of no where the car turns off on
me and I had to pull over to the side and tried to start it and now  all I get is a
loud non stop clicking noise in the starter area. People keep saying the engine
halted like its done for. But I wanted to see if there is any chance it could be
something else. D:  BTW its a Automatic.  Thank you.

normaly when a engine suddenly stops it can be a lot of different things. See if you can turn the engine by hand. put a wrench on the main crank with a socket wrench and a pipe and push it a little. if it turns your likely good engine wise. Pull the spark plugs out to do that as it will make a manual crank easier. i would say you likely have a dead battery myself if the starter only clicks. How the engine stopped tho would indicate what had happened. what kinda noises did it make, did it stutter to halt, did it simply just feel like it simply locked up. these all mean certain issues. The best way to know if the engine is in need of a big repair would be to look at the timing belt /chain and make sure its still on. if it snaped then you likely have a dead engine that requires valve and piston work to fix.

does it rev when you hit the gas peddle while in park ? if not it could be the throttle cable or a bad throtle body computer.

that often happens due to a lack of oil in the engine. You either had a leak and never topped up or the oil pump stopped working at which point a dash light would pop up on your dash. Good signs that this would happen is louder then normal engine operation sounds and having to push your foot down futher to get moving or a feeling like your foot is on the brake peddle.
