Question type: General

Just bought a mazda 6 and the wool looking stuff
connected to the underside of the engine cover is
falling off everywhere, was wondering if it needs to
be on there and if so where can I buy it.

You don't need it- it is just insulation to keep the engine heat off the paint job on your hood- like that paint job or even the car will last longer than 20 years! lol

The insulation is also for sound deadening but like jamnblues says you don't really need it.

Did ALL 2020 Mazda 6 Engine Cover Insulation come with a rat installed from Japan? We bought ours late into December 2019. Within a month, took off the engine cover and found a big hole chewed out of the insulation in the engine cover and about 4 snail shells sitting on the battery. Damn there is a rat in there. Checked again this summer after the first service call and there was no mention of it from the service department. Just checked it again and most of the insulation has been chewed away. I found other people on this site thinking they had a rodent hijacker also. So, we pulled out the remains of the insulation and was wondering if we needed the cover attached at all. Poor rat just lost their little den...and winter is coming soon! Was that the way Japan plans on getting rid of their rat population by installing them in their exports?
