2000 jetta 2.0 overheating

i have a 2000 jetta 2.0 and the oil light turns around 2500 RPMS but only when the car
warms up. then recently the car began over heating . the next day my water outlet flange
began leaking. i replaced the flange and theirs no more leak but i believe the water pump
is  not working correctly since my car doesn't heat much as well. i want some opinions
before i change the water pump cuase i know that will be an all day job
