87 Accord 1400 mile trip in 4th gear with subtle gas smell

Asked by Jed Dec 16, 2016 at 06:57 AM about the 1987 Honda Accord LXi

Question type: General

I only have 4th gear (doesn't go into 5th) can I still
drive 1400 miles? Also the gas smell the mechanic
says is coming from an intake gasket leak. Car
drives like a champ. 160k I bought new brakes,
muffler, cylinder.  Any advice?

sure- if you have 4 gears, you don't need 5th- just plan on going a little slower, maybe 65 and it should be good- you might get tired of it tho, and wish you had that more relaxed gear- maybe it is just an adjustment to the linkage?
