Mercedes ML 500 acceleration problems

Asked by GuruY63XY Mar 30, 2018 at 12:07 AM about the 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 500 4MATIC

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Mercedes ML500 Special Edition. A couple
months ago it wouldn’t start. I had the cam sensor
replaced, and the battery. All was well, it wasn’t throwing
any codes anymore (it only had the cam sensor code
before I had it fixed). It does have a leak, down by the fuse
box. I have yet to get the leak fixed, I’ve been told it needs
a new windshield. Anyways, the windows now won’t roll
down or up and I’m assuming it’s due to the fuses getting
wet. I will replace those tomorrow. Now the acceleration is
odd. It starts fine, but once I stop, if I’m stopped too long,
it won’t move again. The car is running, I can press down
on the gas pedal and it makes the accelerationnoise but
won’t move. This has happened twice. The first time I
freaked out as a light turned green and just hit the gas
pedal until it went. It took off and when it did I had water
drop down onto my feet. The second time, i shut it off and
turned it back on. Then it took off. The acceleration isn’t
as strong as it used to be, if I’m going under 40 and let off
the gas pedal the the deceleration is very strong. If I’ve
been driving for awhile at higher speeds 55+ for a half an
hour it seems to go back to normal. This is every time I
start the car, I’ve avoided stop lights due to this problem.
Any ideas? I haven’t checked to see if it’s throwing
another code.

Check the fluid level in the transmission. If it's not just right it can have odd issues. There are modules that may be effected by the water infiltration problem going on. Would also check the gasket seal around the hood area for cracks too. Unfortunately a sensor such as an acceleration sensor will not always throw a code. There may be stored codes and only be able to be read with Star Diagnostic software (dealer) or possibly some advanced diagnostic readers. A basic obd will not help.
