Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 S10 with a 4.3 engine. It has a code P0300 random misfire on it. I have change about everything  on it and still has the code and misfires and backfires. Spark plugs, timing chain and gear, distributor, ignition module, rotor, egr valve, PCM, MAF sensor and module checked out, Spider injector all changed and still same issue. Ran a compression check and have 150#s on all cylinders. Had catalytic convertor checked and not clogged. Fuel pressure is at 60 PSI. Checked timing out several times and is in time! Help!!

A back-fire usually has to do with timing. Did you look at the timing marks on the camshaft gear to the crankshaft gear to see that they line up? When installing the engine crankshaft should be rotated 2 complete rotations to see if the marks line up on the gears. Also how about the distributor, it wouldn't happen to be off 180° would it?

Any time you change out the timing chain, distributor, you have to do what's called a relearn procedure. Need a scan tool to perform this. A good mechanic shop will have this tool. This resets all the sensors and clear your problem.
