Asked by Nathaniel Jan 25, 2019 at 04:35 PM about the 1990 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my trucks starter will only spin if I take the positive lead of the jumper cables
and directly wire them from the positive lead on the starter to the positive
lead on the battery it does NOT work if I put the jumper cable on the starter
solenoid. any ideas?

i've check grounds on the started solenoid, and i know its working because i
can hear the click, and additionally if i merge the two posts with a
screwdriver still nothing happens.

Your battery may have an internal short which can prevent jump starting from working.
