2004 Chevy Avalanche 1500 Z71 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck has 414K miles, engine still going strong with
regular maintenance.  Replaced alternator and
serpentine belt 2 months ago.   Just returned from
trip and no problems at all.  This morning I went to
the store and when I came out to start the truck it
fired up then shut off...I started it again and if I keep
the RPMs up it will stay running but shuts off when
it tries to idle.  It did this several times.  I eventually
was able to get it started and kept the RPMs up
while in neutral. when I got home and put it in park
it rough idled then died... I noticed the clock on the
dash had reset to 1200 which tells me this is more
of an electrical issue than it is fuel...and yes I had
the fuel pump replaced about 2 years ago
(expensive cause they have to drop the gas tank
since it’s inside the darn tank.). Any help is
appreciated!
Mick

Load test the battery. Replace if necessary. Scan for trouble codes. Check the charging system to see if it’s charging.
