Broken hood latch cable. 03 Celica. Please help.

Asked by celipra216 Dec 19, 2014 at 09:53 PM about the 2003 Toyota Celica GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The hood latch cable is broken. It
actually came out out of the sleeve. I
have tried everything I can think of,
from underneath, through a crack
between the hood and bumper, no
relied. I don't care if I have to break
the latch by any means, I just want my
hood open

Lift front end of car and place on secure blocks. from underneath remove plastic panel if there is one. Move liquid container out of the way so you can see the small spring on the under side of hood latch. Place a rod or long screw driver on the movable flange at the left side of the smaller spring and tap with a hammer. This should release the main hood catch. It worked for me. Good luck.
