i think my flex pipe/converter is leaking exhause its very loud

I have a 95 toyota avalon xl.I have a front mid exhaust leak.I think its the flex
pipe/catalytic converter because when the car warm up in the morning cold
start it smokes from rear muffler and by my foot when my door is open and it
smells like the screen are burning in the converter. Thats the origional
exhaust also.I havent got it put on an lift yet to make sure before i buy the
cc/flex pipe.Do you think i should go ahead and replace the whole
flex/converter or what do you recommend?

wouldn't it be better to just fins out exactly what's broken before you fix it? In a 30 year old car, I'm surprised it has the original exhaust and still passes a smog test. I'd suspect that it's just a rotted out catalytic converter or up-stream exhaust connection.

When I answered this question, my answer failed to appear..... I remember years ago when this site used to get more questions in a day than it now gets in a week or two. It's CarGurus inane management of this Questions site that's now keeping people from coming here to get help. When answers are given, they're not posted for days or at all. And now newcomers get frustrated with all this mismanagement and leave... I suggest CarGurus either GIVE A DAMN or cancel this Questions page all together. It really has become useless.

Get under it and see what needs replaced before overthinking it. That old you may have difficulty finding parts and if that happens the try an exhaust shop.
