If the problem was fixed by changing the spark plugs and oxygen sensor it might take a few days of normal driving for the computer to run the diagnostics and turn off the service engine soon light. Or you can clear the computer with a scan tool. If it's already been a few days and the light is still on, the problem has not been fixed. What trouble codes did you get? These will be four digit codes beginning with the letter P. Such as P0300, for example. Hope that helps! Jim

connect the scanner again and I get the code P0140 it could be due to a hole in the exhaust

P0140 basically is telling us that there's no activity from that oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor that you want to be looking at is the downstream oxygen sensor, after the catalytic converter. That's sensor 2. Bank one is telling us it's on the same side as the number one cylinder. This is only important if you have multiple oxygen sensors on both sides of the engine. Check the wiring going to the downstream oxygen sensor and also make sure they didn't make a mistake and replace the upstream oxygen sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1). I'm also seeing a difference between Federal Emissions and California Emissions. If you have an oxygen sensor for Federal Emissions in the vehicle and it's equipped with California Emissions it will continue to set a trouble code. Check the emission control sticker under the hood to see what system you have. If the sticker says the vehicle "conforms to California Emissions Standards" or is "CARB Compliant" you have California Emissions. Even if the vehicle was not originally delivered to California you may still have California Emissions. My 2000 Grand Prix, originally delivered to New Jersey, has California Emissions and so does my 2003 S10 Pick Up, originally delivered to Delaware. Hope that helps! Jim

Good evening Jim, in fact, my vehicle comes with California emissions certification. I wrote to the seller to find out if the sensor comes with that certification. Another question I have, how can I remove the vehicle service soon message from my DIC?

You can clear the computer using a code reader or scan tool. But if the problem has not been fixed the light will come back on in a few days. I suspect the problem has not been fixed or the light would have gone off on its own after a few days. The computer will need to test the systems and have them pass the tests 3 times before the service engine soon light will turn off on its own. Try clearing the computer and see what happens. Keep us posted! Jim
