Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My motor has a blown head gasket or cracked head, I'm trying to find out what years are compatible for my 99 3.8 ltr. non supercharged.

And think about these two things before you embark on this project. Its' a 21 year old GT which is virtually worthless whether its running or not. Changing the engine in a front wheel drive car is a big project. Fine it you're doing it yourself and have tons of time, although it will still be expensive, but it you're paying someone to do it you will spend several times the worth of the car doing it. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this...

I totally agree on that point Js. I have a car like that and just keep the money flowing into it just because I like it. And you're right about the engine too. I've had a few of them and they do tend to go forever but the intake gaskets are a problem. Hopefully he's checked all that out before going to the trouble of pulling the engine, even if he is in love with it.

All of you make very good points, my Pontiac has only 130,000 miles on it. i change oil every 2500 miles, I've worked on cars all my life, but never a front wheel drive, especially pulling a motor. Im going to check the intake gasket first. I'm not so much in love with the car, it's the fact that I've replaced virtually everything in it. If its not the intake, I'm seriously thinking of parting it out. Thanks Guys for answering.

Personally, if I plan on keeping the car I'd replace them. Rockauto.com has different brands listed for between $16 and $88 each. However if they're still working correctly a bottle of STP Fuel Injector Cleaner in the gas tank at the next fill up should clean them up. I've had good luck with STP products and bought from Rockauto.com many times. Hope that helps! Jim
