Our 2000 Montero Sport would not go into 4wd. Was looking at replacing some sensors on the transfer case but saw a post where someone just changed their transfer case fluid. Thought that was questionable but it was the cheapest and easiest so we did it. 4wd started working again and continued to work for ~9 months. Now the fulcrum ball on the 4wd selector broke and I am working to find a fix.
