Interior courtesy lights, headlights and door locks

Asked by GuruBS98T Jan 26, 2019 at 12:06 PM about the 2004 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Went into garage and headlights and interior lights were on.   Car had been turned-off for hours.  Headlights were set on Auto which I turned-off and other lights went out.  A long story short we check on the car to find the inside lights on and off  and not knowing how often it is doing that.  Then the door locks starting going on and off while driving.  The Lincoln dealer checked the car with their diagnostic tools and could not find anything but suggested a new Light Control Module would be the most likely.  They cannot get the new part so our other garage got a used one and installed it yesterday (I kept the original) on the way home the door locks started up again but hoped that was a different issue.  Came out to the garage and head lights and interior lights were on again (not the module).  Unhooked the battery called the garage and they are  going to research further.  HELP!

I had a similar issue with my 1998 F150. The battery was being run down overnight. Only by accident did I discover that the remote system was locking the doors and turning on and off the interior lights every minute or so without my touching the remote. The fix was cleaning up some corrosion on the contact for the ground wire from the battery to main fuse with steel wool and electronic contact cleaner. I hope this works for you.

Keyless entry control module is bad. You might get lucky and find a used one on eBay that actually works. But you’re better off buying a new one. It’s easy to change if you’ve got some skills. I bought two different used ones online and both didn’t work. I purchased a new one and it works fine. Make sure it matches your car’s year because they changed it at some point.
