Interior lights stay on after doors are shut on 2003 Lincoln town car, why does removal of accessory delay relay solve the problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had problem with interior lighting fuse blowing. Dealer Tech sold me a DDM, and later a light switch, and after all that loot, found a shorted wire in the driver side sun visor wiring. I believe incompetence or down right fraud.
Any way that corrected the problem. A couple of months later, the interior lights would never go off. No door ajar alarm. Pulled the accessory delay relay and the interior lighting now seems to work, at least after about 5+ seconds the lights dim and go off.
I believe the accessory delay relay has additional functions, so will have to reinstall it before attempting to drive the vehicle..Have a replacement part on order, but have some doubts as to whether or not a new relay will correct this problem. Any other suggestions?

I suppose I can now answer this issue. The dash light dimmer was not in the on position for interior lighting, the door ajar alarm was not on. As a last resort, I removed the accessory delay relay in the interior fuse panel and they did go off immediately when door was closed. So I put the relay back in because I thought it may have other functions other than interior lighting. Anyway, when replaced everything went back to normal. Perhaps the relay was frozen in the closed position, or one of the posts was not making contact before removal and re installation. In any case when the ordered part came in, I put the new replacement relay into the fuse panel and everything is still normal. So, perhaps the original was not making good contact. New relay was ordered from Rock Auto online at about $5.00.
