You have to remove a series of other panels and screws before you can get access to that. The center trim panel over climate controls and stereo has to come off to get access to other screws to remove panel under neath that. Also have to pop up the dash to get access to a few screw s underneath that. Another panel under steering wheel or above knees. Another trim piece around gauge cluster and stereo. Probably at least a dozen screws in all to remove and about 4-5 panels/trim pieces to remove. It sounds like a lot to do but once you get started it's pretty self explanatory. But might take you 30 minutes to an hour to remove and reinstall.

Yes thank-you but i think its probably transmission only 127,000 miles on it, really don't know what else it could be, but its still driveable but can't go over 40mph

Is it Quadra Trac (all time AWD) or Select Trac (2WD switchable to 4WD)? Maybe you transfer case lever is off it's pivot point and it's stuck in 4WD low. If not the case, maybe your tranny could use a fluid and filter change. That may help it shift normal again. Otherwise your shift indicator may be off and what looks like "D" could be in 3rd instead.
