Question type: Maintenance & Repair

03 Ford Expedition EB with 5.4
My wife was dropping my kids off at school. She
turned the car off got everyone out and when she
returned to the car it wouldn't start. She called me
and I told her to leave it and I would come by and
take a look at it when I had a chance. She got a
ride so back to the story. I get there and jump in the
car as soon as I turn the key all I hear is allowed
clicking noise coming from the starter. Just one
click, not multiple but only one. I immediately
thought my battery was dead, I was a little upset
because I just replaced it two days before this so, I
tried to jump start it and got no results. Still just
the one loud click or clunk however you prefer to
call it. I didn't check the voltage meter on the
dashboard and it looked like it was fine once I got
the SUV home I checked the battery again with
another voltage meter. The battery is okay. So then
I thought to myself maybe it's my starter so, I take
the starter off and took it to AutoZone it passed
three tests but sounded a little weak so I went
ahead and replaced it anyway. After I got the
starter on I got back up and turn the key and I'm
still only getting the one loud click/clunk. From
there I started to check my relay switch I probably
should have done that first but it checked out okay
anyway. Then I checked my ignition switch to make
sure it was working okay and sure enough it's
working perfectly fine. So to recap this real quick
when I turn the key I get one loud click noise
coming from the starter. I have a new battery,
starter, relay switch & my ignition switch is working
fine.

I tryed to turn the engine by hand to make sure it
wasn't locked up but I don't have enough leverage
to do it without clearing some space from the
engine area. With work I haven't really had the time
to play with this.
I'm out of troubleshooting ideas

Double check your battery cables ( both ends) if ok Fords are notorious for needing voltage for their starters to work. If these check ok you really need to try and turn the crank

I purchased a 2003 ford expedition about a month ago. Ran fine with no issues until a few days ago. When I left work, it wouldn't start..all lights, radio, everything came on but it wont even attempt to crank. There's no noise at all except when i turn the key back off I hear a buzzing sound coming from the fuse box area on the passenger side floorboard. Brand new battery, starter is good, fuel pump is kicking on, it just wouldn't crank. The first time this happened I turned the key on and off about 8 times then it finally started. Few days later, it wouldn't crank again so I locked it up 2 days later unlocked the driver door with my key and it started right up no problem. Later that same day it wouldn't start yet again. This time I played with and moved the fuse box around a little until I heard a loud "click" then it started right up again. I can't have this keep happening to me and stranding myself and my 3 daughters everytime I need to go somewhere. If there's anyone out there who has had a similar issueand figured out the problem and how to fix it please let me know!! Thanks!!
