Chevy Silverado Engine Temp Hits 235?

Asked by Tim Jul 07, 2021 at 08:40 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 LS Crew Cab LB DRW RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my truck I got recently normally runs at 210°. I use it
for firewood and it has a 12 ft bed on it. When driving
around with a full load on it, it stays at this temperature,
but when I run the truck up a slightly steep hill for more
than 30 seconds, the temperature rises anywhere from
220-235. Once the hill levels out, after about 30
seconds, it goes back to normal. It won't rise above this
temperature unless I'm going up hill for more than 15-20
seconds.

My coolant is topped off and everything seems to be
working well. The truck doesn't feel like it's having any
issues either. I feel like the truck is possibly just being
pushed a little hard with those full firewood loads so I
really only intend to use it for flat ground deliveries until
my diesel F550 is fixed next month which has always
been good going up those hills

Is it safe to keep running my truck at this temperature
for these short bursts for the next month or so? Maybe
2-3 dozen more trips like this. Also, could it possibly be
something else is wrong with the truck or am I just
pushing it too hard? Thanks!

Upgrade the radiator. I suggest Mishimoto.
