I have a brand new Jeep Wrangler. I started the engine not knowing it was in gear, I usually park in neutral with the parking brake on. Now the Check Engine light is on.

Jeep is ok to drive,as long as it is running normal and not heating up,but drive it directly to dealer to find out the engine light issue,IMO,it just was a bad start causing the engine light, once the ECM gets a signal it holds, the light on,even thoe there is no issue with the jeep,go have it checked anyway,it is new.

Since it's brand new and going by that I assume still under full warranty. Take it to the dealer, and don't tell them anything except the CEL is on. Let them figure it out. But you must have had the clutch pushed, right? Another assumption, it's not automatic. But it's a good habit to park in gear then put in neutral to start. But if you mean it lurched, unexpectedly, when started something is wrong with starter safety. It should not start unless clutch is pushed.
