Overfilled engine oil Z06

Asked by MY427Z06 Sep 18, 2014 at 01:42 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I overfilled the oil aprox 1.5 qts in my 06 Z06 and it was blowing out major white smoke
after I drove the car about a mile.
When I shut the engine off, there was a gurgurling sound coming out from either the
engine or oil tank.
No engine lights came on the dash so I suspect there's no major engine problems, but
I am afraid the gurgling noise might be damage to the engine.  What should I do? Will
the smoking go away?

I hope that you have the correct amount of oil in it now. Keep checking all of the fluid levels. Engine. Transmission. And the radiator when it is COLD.

Make sure your using the right oil. Just because your oil caps might say 5-30w doesn't mean you can use just any 5-30w. Read about your car. And see which brand is best for it and give it a oil change. Make sure your putting the right amount in. A car might say it can hold 4 quarts but it can hold almost a gallon and a half just in your oil pan, a quart to much can make it smoke white. Anymore to it and your just boiling the oil in the engine.

How do you know you put the wrong amount in the engine? Anyway, too much oil and it will pump oil up into the bottom of the cylinders and that is where the white smoke is coming from, the excess oil burning. Lesson learned? Read the manual, and set out just the correct amount you need before starting the oil change. Set the used cans aside so you can see them after adding the oil as a second back-up as a reminder. May sound stupid but did you look at the cost of replacing a Z06 engine? After a could of weeks, clean out the exhaust pipes of the soot caused from the burnt oil.
